BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Our 'Little Paradise under the chestnut trees' is a lovingly restored Karst-estate in the sub-Mediterranean south-western of Slovenia near Trieste and the Adriatic coast. It consists of a former farm with various buildings and a large sub-Mediterranean garden estate. It extends over several sun terraces located directly opposite the hill with the medieval stone village Štanjel. It is surrounded by vineyards, dry grasslands and mixed forests.

We offer guests:

• two spacious rural apartments for a total of up to 9 people (75 m2 and 100 m2) - available separately or together,

• an extensive sub-Mediterranean garden estate with old trees (chestnuts, walnuts, laurels, palms, figs, cypress trees, olive trees) and with over 100 different rose varieties,

• panoramic views of the medieval stone village Štanjel, the cultural landscape of the Karst and Slovenian pre-Alps,

• individual art courses in various techniques (also for children),

• a sales and exhibition gallery with different works in acrylics, collages, graphics, childern illustrations,

• a modern meeting room and an atelier for various group activities,

• broadband connection (WLAN and LAN) in the apartments, in the meeting room and in the garden,

• from April to October a heated saltwater pool with a roof,

• from November to March a small oriental wellness oasis with jacuzzi and Turkish shower,

• 6 trekking rental bikes,

• a visit to a local wine cellar with wine and sparkling wine tasting (also dark red Teran sparkling wine) and tasting of local air-dried meat specialties (i.e. air-dried Karst ham - prosciutto,

• many insider tips for exploring the surrounding attractions of Slovenia and neighbouring Italy.

Our property is for people who love nature, art and gardens, relaxation and creativity. It is also suitable for larger families, friends and various quiet group activities.

It is ideal for all year round walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, experiencing culture and nature, tasting local wines (i.e. Teran and Teran sparkling wine) and products (prosciutto) or just for lounging and sunbathing.

The Karst is the "Provence" of Slovenia.....

The Karst is a sparsely populated plateau (200 m - 400 m above sea level) at the northeast edge of the Gulf of Trieste at the border between Slovenia and Italy. Pristine nature and a characteristic stone architecture with narrow old villages, paths lined with stone walls and spectacular caves are the main features of the Karst. Famous are its wines, specially its dark red wine Teran (Terrano) and its old varieties of white wine like Malvazija (Malvasia) and Vitovska. A special feature is also the Karst ham dried in open air, the so-called Kraški pršut (Prosciutto), as also other types of air-dried meat.

The Karst is very centrally located with good transport links to the motorway Ljubljana - Nova Gorica/Koper/Trieste and Trieste - Venice/Udine. The nearest Adriatic beach is at Sistiana mare (I) - less than 30 minutes away from Kobdilj/Štanjel. It takes 30 minutes to the famous caves of Škocjan (UNESCO WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE) and Postojna, to the Stud farm of Lipizzan horses in Lipica, to the old town of Trieste & Miramare Castle, the Rilke path at the Duino Castle, 1 h to Ljubljana or Piran, less than 2 hours to Venice, the Soča Valley or the Lake of Bled (Julian Alps)...

The Karst is the sunniest area in Slovenia from November through March with even more sunshine hours than in Portorož at the Adriatic coast. The annual sunshine duration is 2,250 h, from 100 h in December to almost 300 h in July.
